On October 2, connoisseurs of Ukrainian poetry in the Central City Library named after M.L. Kropyvnytskyi talked with the poet Kateryna Kyi. Her path to the literary world began at the age of thirteen in her native Stanislav, Kherson region.
Then the young author was inspired by the beauty of nature. What she wrote about in her poems. And also about Ukraine, its hard-working, strong-willed, indomitable and heroic inhabitants. Years passed and the collected creative material became the publication of the first poetry collection. In 2007, pani Kateryna's poetic works formed the basis of a documentary film by Ivan Omelchuk, a television presenter from Kherson.
"We traveled around Ukraine. In Lviv, Kherson, Mykolaiv. Our country was filmed in different places, as well as in Kyiv. Beautiful places of our country. And then they made video clips. When we looked at them, he said that they can be combined and this can make a movie. This will be your collection of poems. And we made a film called "The Request of the Native Land", - recalls the author.
The leitmotif of the movie is the first poetic work of Kateryna Kyi. The words written by the author decades ago turned out to be prophetic. The reader will find there everything about today's war with the Russian aggressor, the unity of the nation, the struggle for own Ukrainian church, and the emigration of citizens abroad.
"After hearing her poems, hearing the history of her family, the history of the village, it seemed to me that I had fallen into some kind of myth. Some legend, some Bible story. And I wanted to pass it on. The idea of putting poems, exactly as they are done in this film, came of course to me. Kateryna had no television experience. It came out sometime in 2008, it was ready. As it is now. We drove through several villages of the Kherson region. We showed it. And people really like it very much. The reviews were only good," says Ivan Omelchuk.
Kateryna Kyi has been living in Mykolaiv for the past four years. This life choice was influenced by the desire of the writer's daughter to become a choreographer. For its implementation, an appropriate educational institution was chosen, namely the Mykolaiv College of Culture and Arts. Having obtained the professional education of her dreams, the girl continued her studies in the capital. Today she is a student of Kyiv National I.K. Karpenko-Kary Theater, Cinema and Television University, Ballet Directing Faculty.
"Leaving one's home is always very difficult. It was very hard to tear yourself away from that place, the wonderful place you saw on the screen. But Mykolaiv was also my hometown, just like Kherson. I came here very often to visit my relatives. And this city fell into my heart. And I chose it for study and life. Student life, I have a correspondence form of education. But the session is very intensive. There are tasks that I have to combine with my team. Because I'm studying to be a film director. And I have the opportunity to study and work precisely in my field," - emphasizes the head of the folk dance ensemble "Svitanok".
The performance of Yulia Vylku's pupils became a bright accent of her mother's poetic evening. The poetry of pani Kateryna was also performed here, and there were frank answers in the format of a public interview to the questions of the leading librarian of the reading room, Olena Doskalenko.
