Europe Day, as a symbol of the initiation of a successful model of peaceful interstate cooperation based on common values and interests, is traditionally celebrated at the beginning of May in Ukraine.
Central city library named after M.L. Kropyvnytskyi together with the Cultural and Artistic Association "Art-spokusa" decided to celebrate the unity of Ukraine and Europe with a special master class.
Regular readers were invited to a creative library workshop to make a variation of a traditional Swedish souvenir - the Dalecarlian horse.
Its traditional version does not have a tail and has connected ears. Painted red and with white and blue patterns. The toys have different sizes. They range from tiny centimeter horses to half a meter ones.
"The idea to celebrate Europe Day in this way, to join the celebration of Europe Day, came to our director pani Inha Khorzhevska. She suggested that it is possible to conduct such an interesting master class. To learn the history of a country, to travel in thoughts to this country. And learn something interesting. Dal's horse looks like a toy. A figure of a horse. In ancient times, it was made with one ear and no tail. But today, modern masters of souvenir products are already changing the color, aesthetic design", - emphasizes the head of the Cultural and artistic association "Art-spokusa" Valentyna Kryvtsova.
Modern Swedish horses are traditionally made and painted by hand. The only exception is its form itself. It is cut out with a stencil using a band saw. Of course, the material of manufacture is wood: pine, alder, maple.
"I really liked Sweden's work. Because they are inspired by animals, which are a symbol for them. And Dal's horse is a very interesting work of Sweden. And I really liked it, because I like working with wood," shares craftswoman Hanna Petryk.
So, if you need a gift with a truly Swedish flavor, the Dalecarlian horse is definitely what you need.
