The opening took place as a cultural initiative designed to strengthen Ukrainian-Lithuanian ties and introduce readers to the literature, culture, and history of Lithuania.
The history of this shelf began back in February 2026, when during a visit to the library, Tomas Ivanauskas, Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine, presented books as a gift, which became the foundation of the new collection.
Today, these publications already have their place in the library and are waiting for their readers. These are not just books — they are an opportunity to learn more about Lithuania, its culture, history, people, and art.
The Lithuanian Bookshelf is a kind of mirror response to the international project "Ukrainian Bookshelf," which, with the support of the First Lady of Ukraine, is implemented in libraries around the world. In particular, the Ukrainian bookshelf is also presented at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania in Vilnius.
It is especially gratifying that the grand opening took place with the assistance of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine and with the participation of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine, Inha Stanytė-Toločkienė.
The continuation of the grand opening was the screening of the film "On a Cloud Ship."
The film reveals the meeting and conversation between two kindred souls — the outstanding Lithuanian painter, composer, and writer Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis and Professor Vytautas Landsbergis, who has been studying his work for 70 years.
The audience embarked on a journey through the paths of Čiurlionis's work, where music, art, and literature are wonderfully interwoven. The film became a special continuation of getting acquainted with Lithuanian culture — no longer only through books, but also through cinema.
We sincerely thank the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Lithuania in Mykolaiv and personally Serhii Sypko for supporting this important cultural initiative, facilitating its implementation, and paying attention to the development of the Ukrainian-Lithuanian cultural dialogue.
Books, cinema, art — all of this creates a space for dialogue and mutual understanding.
Today, the Lithuanian Bookshelf in our library is another symbol of friendship and cultural unity between Ukraine and Lithuania.
