This book represents the view at 2022 through by the eyes of four photographers. The project was inspired by Yurii Liubarov, Head of the Department for Culture and Cultural Heritage Protection of the Mykolaiv City Council.
"The main thing is that they saw the life that raged from February 24 to December 31, 2022. This is such a calendar of events, terrible, scary events in text and photos. There are people, there are events. Destruction and shelling. This was the first year that changed a lot in people's understanding and views. That's how it happened," notes the initiator of the publication.
It took a team of like-minded people a little less than a year for the result of their joint work to reach the reader. The album includes photos of Serhii Kononenko, Dmitrii Skorokhodov, Svitlana Koval, and Max "Macarena". The author of the texts is the director of the Central City Library named after M.L. Kropyvnytskyi Inha Khorzhevska. Hanna Ulina and Pavlo Usik worked on the layout of the book. Proofreading by Olha Vorosylova. Consultant is Serhii Kartsev. The publication was printed by the Shvets Publishing House.
"Almost all our photographers from Mykolaiv that I know were unable to film these horrors. And I understood that I had to do it. Because I was working. I didn't go anywhere. I saw these horrors. From the first days, starting from the shelling on the first day, I had a pumping station there. We went to rescue. And I filmed these houses that were destroyed. And that's how it went. Everyone said when I posted my photos: Serhii, this isn't yours," recalls Serhii Kononenko.
"I kept my photos. I showed them on social networks. So that friends from other cities and abroad would share, tell what was happening in Mykolaiv. What is happening in Ukraine in general. So that people remember that the struggle continues. Help is needed, especially for our military," Svitlana Koval shares.
The first edition of the album is 250 copies. They will be distributed by the libraries of the Hero City. They will be presented to foreign delegations and honored guests during business meetings. Over time, the number of books will increase.
In addition to photos, the album contains a 2022 calendar from February 24. According to the chronology, readers will learn about everything that happened in the city every day until the end of December: how shops and public transport worked, and the activities of local authorities and volunteer groups, utility companies, and doctors are highlighted.
During its preparation, materials collected by the staff of the Central City Library named after M.L. Kropyvnytskyi as part of the implementation of the information project “Chronicles of War. Mykolaiv” came in handy. For a long time, specialists carried out daily monitoring of Internet resources to collect the necessary information.

During the presentation, the co-author of the album, the headliner of the "Rock-Hata" club, whose team in the first year of the war received the Honorary title of "Star of Culture of the City of Mykolaiv", Dmytro Skorokhodov, shared his memories. And the musical number performed by him became the culmination of the meeting.
"From the first days of the invasion, I realized that I had to film. Because this is filming crimes. This is a chronicle of war. And if we don't do this, our crazy neighbor always has a way to rewrite history, remove history from textbooks, and show it in his own way. That's why we always have to film. And at that moment I realized that I had to do it," says Dmitrii Skorokhodov.
The presentation ended with a joint performance of the song "Oh, the Red Viburnum in the Meadow" by the band "Wings", which, in fact, became a second anthem for Ukrainians during the war.
