In early February, Ukrainians celebrate the day when winter meets spring. The moment when fire conquers cold, and light conquers darkness.
And since no one should be sad in spring, the craftswomen of the Cultural and Artistic Association "Art-Spokusa" offered regular readers of the Central City Library named after M.L. Kropyvnytskyi a unique way to struggle with winter sadness, boredom and longing. In anticipation of spring romance, women received positive emotions from making a brooch - a flower from wool.
"And let this inspire the girls that spring is finally approaching. Today's topic is studying the ancient art of felting from wool. Recently, we have been hearing more and more about the term felting. It's in English. And more and more girls are getting into felting to make women's accessories. These are jewelry, belts, stoles, scarves. But from the very beginning, felting from wool was traditionally used to make clothes, as well as accessories. Well, the most popular were skiers made from wool," says Valentyna Kryvtsova, head of the Cultural and Artistic Association "Art-Spokusa".
Such products made of natural wool are incredibly beautiful, elegant and original. Each participant managed to realize her own ideas. The talented Mykolaiv craftswoman, Olena Mishchenko, who has been passionate about needlework since childhood, helped the representatives of the beautiful half of humanity, visitors of the master classes, to believe in their own strength and confidently move towards the realization of such a desired goal.
"I think everything worked out. Because each of the participants in the master class received her own flower. Each of them is different, unique, made by her own hands. It is not a shame to wear it as a brooch, an accessory for any event. I think everything worked out. How difficult is it? When I started, it was also difficult. If you do it constantly, then of course you gain experience. And it is not so difficult anymore. But like any type of decorative and applied art, felting gives the right to experiment. Today we made a seemingly complex flower - pansies, but we made it from an ordinary oval. That is, we experimented. We cut it, we modeled it. And since each person is unique, we got a different result. But I think the result is very wonderful," - Olena Mishchenko shares her pleasant impressions.
Felting is a fascinating, creative way to create cozy, beautiful wool products. This method allows every soul searching for itself to make unique masterpieces of needlework from ordinary, available materials.
