Ukrainians have been decorating fabric for a long time. One of the oldest ways to decorate clothes is embossing. A pattern is applied using specially carved wooden stamps.

This technology spread across the territory of modern Ukraine about a thousand years ago. At first, clothes were decorated with embossing at home, and later craft workshops were engaged in it.

Regular visitors of master classes and readers of the Central City Library named after M.L. Kropyvnytskyi had an exclusive opportunity to express themselves through creativity, creating stylish accessories with their own hands.

"We continue to improve our knowledge of Ukrainian traditions. Today, at the master class, we will work on the amazing technique of Ukrainian embossing. That is, stamping patterns on fabric. This is an ancient art form. It was used to decorate both clothes and home interiors, and household items. Today, we will create festive napkins using the embossing technique," shared Valentyna Kryvtsova, head of the Cultural and Artistic Association "Art-Spokusa".

They were inspired to create by the Cultural and Artistic Association "Art-Spokusa" and the master trainer Vira Zhevner.

"And our theme is Christmas, New Year, holiday. Although it's warm outside, we will use a winter theme. These are angels, Christmas trees, Ukrainian themes, and our amulets, embroidery, snowflakes," said Vira Zhevner.

Each participant independently chose elements and combined them into an interesting composition thanks to pani Vira's large selection of stamps.

The process of the master class is extremely exciting. The result is things that can be both wonderful gifts and indispensable everyday household items.

In general, practicing embossing is an ideal option for a group of craftsmen and craftswomen. It will be especially interesting for those who do not have very good drawing skills. It is enough to have a developed imagination.
