On December 6, the Central City Library hosted a traditional city-wide ecological and educational event under the patronage of the Mykolaiv City Mayor with the support of the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration and the Department of Housing and Communal Services of the Mykolaiv City Council.
The issues raised during the scientific and practical conference are very relevant and require joint actions by the authorities, the public, environmental specialists, and representatives of the journalistic community, says Liubov Variukhina, Deputy Director of the Central City Library named after M.L. Kropyvnytsky.
"This year, the general theme was not chosen. Because we are concerned about everything. This includes the issue of recycling waste from damage, the issue of landscaping, how the Mykolaiv region suffered and what are the consequences of a full-scale invasion, the issue of preserving biodiversity, the issue of cultivating an ecological culture and obtaining ecological knowledge," emphasized Liubov Variukhina.
The guests' communication was carried out in the format of an online meeting. Only a few speakers were present directly at the library. Among them was Dmytro Mats, Deputy Head of the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.
"Today, we have several commissions working, which are designated to calculate the damage, determine the amount of losses caused by armed aggression. And firstly, this is the only territory of the Mykolaiv region that is currently under occupation - the Kinburn Peninsula.
We recently held a commission to determine the extent of the damage. The inspectorate is now calculating its size in order to transfer all the data to the Prosecutor General's Office for filing a claim for compensation for the damage," emphasized the deputy head of the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.
In addition, environmental specialists are working on the creation of new nature reserves. Their number is gradually increasing in the Northern Black Sea region every year, notes Dmitro Mats. New, modern standards for the restoration of war-affected territories are being introduced.
"We are working with international organizations, in particular the UN, to develop the material base of our State Emergency Service. They received several mine detectors, drones, laboratories for analyzing the water environment. A multispectral drone for analyzing soil contamination, vegetation contamination. And, in addition, a project is currently being implemented to determine the state of the environment, the state of soils, primarily water resources and explosive objects related to armed aggression," emphasized Dmytro Mats.
Traditionally, ecological readings are followed by a decade of other ecological educational events. They will be held directly at the Central City Library named after M.L. Kropyvnytsky and in the Center for Ecological Information and Culture of the Library Branch No. 2 of the Central City Library named after M.L. Kropyvnytsky.
